European requirement for low lap belt force to prevent abdominal injury to child, not required for US.
Under 50 lbs, booster seats must meet FMVSS213 crash test performance standards.
Above 50 lbs, booster seats are not required to meet any biomechanical performance standards.
A child seat can claim 'side impact' safety without meeting any requirement, or even conducting any testing.
NCAP testing assures safe positioning of a child is maintained in a severe accident.
Maintaining proper lap belt position helps prevent injury and 'submarining' of child under a lap belt.
